Explain your idea

I would like a reimplementation of the Ender IO block, a block that existed pre-1.12 that allowed you to use the staff of travelling/travel anchor to connect to the block and interact with of things around said block like chests and machines, essentially acting like the scry crystal in ars nouveau, but with more benefits. Once finished, you would come back to where you were standing at the time of activation, essentially allowing you to remotely interact with machines while you could be working on something else.

Why do you think this feature belongs in Ender IO.

This block used to be a part of EnderIO and is its literal namesake. I found it rather disappointing that it was removed when I started playing on 1.12.2, and while I understand that the EnderIO team was forced to remove it due to the system changes implemented by Forge, with everything out now, I feel that EnderIO (mod) should reimplement the Ender IO (block). If Ars Nouveau can implement the scry crystal, then reimplementing the Ender IO block should be possible.

Experiment Task Tracking

This feature has been merged into the development branch, but is behind a feature flag currently. This is the list of tasks to be completed before it can be taken out from the feature flag:

  • Add recipes for survival
  • Fix raytracing being broken when blocks are far enough from the Ender IO
  • Possibly reimplement the nausea-like effect from the original block (unsure if I like it)
  • Properly refactor the travel target API to allow non-teleportation targets
  • Fix staff of traveling not highlighting Ender IO as target (caused by current hacky approach to support the staff)
  • Fix staff of traveling always prioritizing anchors over Ender IOs
  • Render eye of ender inside Ender IO block model
