Put 7 photovoltaic composite in the alloy smelter, as the first one is crafting, right click the stack of 4. Notice it doesn't behave as expected

I'm afraid I can't seem to reproduce what this is referring to.

I pick up half of the remaining stack of 4 when I right click and the recipe continues as normal. It then stops because there only 2 items in the slot when 3 are required. I can also place the 2 back and the next craft starts taking 3 and leaving one of the photovoltaic composite.

Am I perhaps misunderstanding?

I might have found a related issue actually. If you place one or two photovoltaic composite into the alloy smelter, and then shift click any amount in that doesn't cause an overflow into a second slot, the craft will not start.

And now I think I found the issue you were referring to. I was writing an issue and used the word locked in it and then had an eureka moment 😆

When either the Primitive Alloy Smelter or Alloy Smelter consume the last items in its slots, the empty slots will only accept items if you are able to supply the type and amount of items of the craft that is currently happening in a single click/action.

Since you cannot add two or more item types with a single click, recipes with more than 1 ingredient type completely lock the slots.

If you craft a Photovoltaic Plate using 3 Photovoltaic Composite, the slots will not allow you to place a stack smaller than three in them.

Since glass is a single item craft to make Clear Glass, you can place as much of it however you want. (However when testing glass I ran into #292 as I placed it in multiple slots. Yippee...)

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Place a Primitive Alloy Smelter and give it fuel
  2. Place an Energetic Alloy Ingot and an Ender Pearl in it
  3. While the craft is occurring, attempt to place any items in the empty slots
  4. Be unable to do so
